RACE 1: Post: 12:30 PT Grade: B+
Top selection/Prime Play:  1-Aransas Pass
Back-ups
: 5-Aunt Mo.

Forecast: Aransas Pass appears to be a filly with good ability and promise.  In her second career start (and her first on dirt), the daughter of Global Campaign stumbled badly at the break to lose all chance yet made up a considerable amount of ground from the far turn to the wire to wind up third beaten five lengths over this track and distance last month.  She’s certain to display improvement today with a clean start, and now, with two races under her belt, the M. McCarthy-trained juvenile appears ready to earn her diploma.  Even in a five runner field she can offer good wagering value in the win pool and in the exotics at or near her morning line 2-1.

RACE 9:  Post: 4:30 PT Grade: B+
Top Selection/Prime Play: 2-Phoenix Flying
Backups
: none.

Forecast: Phoenix Flying ran much better than the line will show in his turf sprint debut last month and today, with that bit of experience behind him, seems primed to step forward considerably in this middle distance grass affair for maiden claiming $50,000 company.  A close fifth despite lacking room down the backstretch which cost him early momentum, the son of Karakontie stayed on bravely through the lane to wind up a close fifth, beaten just more than a length, while earning a very nice speed figure in the process.  Today’s added ground should be well within his capabilities, and from where he’s drawn he’s quite likely to be on or near the lead throughout.  At 5/2 on the morning line, we’ll play him enthusiastically on the tote and in the various rolling exotics.
