Frank Carulli: Laurel Park Pick 4 Analysis Friday, Dec. 2, 2022

Fillies and mares will take center stage in Laurel Park’s Late Pick 4 Friday, with 24 of them entered in the first three races in the sequence. Find the winners and you could be rewarded with a good payout for a 50-cent base wager. Here’s a closer look at the action:

LRL 6th race (2:24 EST) -- RED QUEEN ran away from the 4-to-5 favorite for her second win at Laurel Park since October and the four-race winner meets mostly non-winners of three types today at the same distance. ABIDALE ‘responded when roused’ on the lead in a long sprint victory at Parx, leaving next-out winner One Wild Woman (5-16, $95k) in the dust. HOT LOOKIN ROYAL romped off the claim to go 2-2 at Laurel Park and on a fast track. She should sit an ideal trip off a lively pace and is a good value play to include on the ticket.

LRL 7th race (2:52 EST) -- ISABELLA’S GLORY ran her best race in her only one-mile test to date, taking the lead in mid-stretch and finishing third last November behind a pair of rivals who currently stand a combined 4-14 with $193k in earnings. She runs for her cheapest claiming price off a useful comeback sprint and is coupled in the wagering with LADY MOSLER, a four-time runner-up in her last eight starts, mostly on turf. VICTORIAN RIVIERA dueled with the 8-1 winner from mid-backstretch to mid-stretch at 1-1/16 miles and did well to hold second, earning the favorite’s role in this spot. THE HARPSTER showed nothing in her 6F debut, but her sire won the Grade III Illinois Derby and her dam was a steady router and $117k earner, so use her if you have room in the Pick 4 at 20-1 odds.

LRL 8th race (3:21 EST) -- Morning-line favorite BREVIARY towers over the field on paper, but she is a habitual slow starter and her winning confidence could have been shaken a bit when outrun against graded stakes-caliber rivals like Hybrid Eclipse (6-17, $361k), Fille d’Esprit (12-23, $598k), Battle Bling (6-21, $618k) in her last three starts. She could be a solo play, but use MY BOSS LADY as a backup. She finished first or second in 10 of 20 starts and trainer Kieron Magee won with four of the last eight runners he claimed.

LRL 9th race (3:50 EST) – Not sold on anyone in a field that is a combined 5-for-88 this year. SAINT MARCO and ON THE ENGINE figure tough if they can avoid recurring trouble lines, but go six deep just in case they don’t.
