Jeremy Plonk: Pegasus World Cup Post Draw Reaction

A total of 14 hopefuls passed the entry box this afternoon for Saturday’s $3 million Pegasus World Cup with a capacity field of 12 eligible to start. The seventh running of Gulfstream Park’s signature winter race features Grade 1 winners Art Collector, Cyberknife, Defunded, Get Her Number, Proxy and White Abarrio. The lack of a standout favorite as in past years – such as Arrogate, Gun Runner and Knicks Go – makes this perhaps the best betting race in the event’s history. Cyberknife was set as the 5-2 morning line favorite.

Horseplayers betting the Pegasus World Cup, World Cup Turf and Filly & Mare Turf can receive up to a $25 money-back special on win bets that finish second or third when you opt into the promotion at 1/ST BET or Xpressbet.

In a race leaning heavily towards front-end pace factors historically, this Pegasus World Cup edition figures to see Art Collector and Defunded as its defined early speed over the 1-1/8 miles trip. That they drew next to one another could lead to a head-to-head battle for control. Still, they are high quality and could hold the aces if longshot Ridin With Biden (post 3) isn’t sent hard with intent on the front. A wide draw for Cyberknife in post 10 will put jockey Florent Geroux in an early decision-making mode – take back and tuck in, or send hard and avoid ground loss.

First post Saturday will be an early 10:50 am ET start with live NBC coverage from 4:30-6 pm ET. The undercard includes the $500,000 Grade 3 Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf and the $1 million Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Turf.
