Sunny skies and temps in the around 80 degrees are in the Thursday forecast for Hallandale Beach, Fla. Let’s get to work.

Race 6 | Gulfstream Park | allowance/optional claiming

The 2023 Champion 2-Year-Old Filly and last year’s Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks runner-up #5 Just F Y I (pictured) makes her first start at age 4 in a salty comeback spot. Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan winner #3 Gun Song and Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks winner #1 Power Squeeze round out the main rivals in a field of 6. Gun Song looks to have the pace edge in this 1-turn mile. Both Gun Song and Just F Y I have trained right on cue for the return from layoff. Just FYI and Power Squeeze are first-time Lasix. Plenty to like about all 3, unfortunately, when it comes to narrowing a short field.

Race 7 | Gulfstream Park | claiming (Tapeta)

Morning line favorite #10 Jefe de Obra is 0-6 in the US, has never run on the synthetic and 3 times has been the beaten chalk in those starts since coming to Wesley Ward’s barn. Seems like a good spot to knock off the public choice and separate ourselves. #6 Nando vastly improved since the move to Tapeta and takes a minor class drop following a troubled start. #8 Holding the Line is the “other” Ward and should fit well at this local level. Going with that pair.

Race 8 | Gulfstream Park | allowance (Tapeta)

Open-condition allowance over 1-1/8 miles o the synthetic has stakes-placed #1 Enterdadragon coming back off short rest from the Colonel Liam Stakes March 1. The addition of Lasix may be significant. French debut winner #2 Nazareth is well-drawn for reputed connections and well-drawn for the US unveiling. Have to respect the proven Tapeta form of #7 Hello Hello Hello, but has lost both starts this year at smallish prices (2-1, 8-5), so willing to swing against with some trepidation.

Race 9 | Gulfstream Park | maiden claiming (turf)

#5 Doctor’s Orders had a mistimed move last time out in a turf mile against slightly tougher and should handle this field of career maidens if he takes to the Tapeta. Prior tries on the surface last spring were vs. much tougher, so may not be indicative of his ability to get over the Tapeta. Really only has #8 Oscarworthy to beat – either a potential single in the event the other would scratch.

The ticket:

3,5,1 with 6,8 with 2,1 with 5 = $6 for each 50 cents
