Del Mar 3rd Race – Post: 4:00 PT. Degree of confidence: B+
Top Selection: 8-Lady Chic.
Other Contenders: 10-Alaramo (Ire).
Forecast: Lady Chic has done some very good work leading up to her racing debut in this mile turf affair for juveniles and has provided ample evidence that she might be several cuts above the ordinary. Purchase for $500,000 as a weanling, she is physically exquisite and looks very much like a prototype long distance grass horse while training just like one, too. Long and athletic with a smart turn of foot, the daughter of Tapit has been given a strong foundation to be fit and ready, and while trainer J. Sadler doesn’t win often with first timers this highly regarded homebred can prove to be the exception to the rule. With barn favorite H. Berrios taking the call, she looks very well meant and should offer good wagering value at or near her morning line of 3-1.

Del Mar 4th race – Post: 4:30 PT. Degree of confidence: B
Top Selection: 1-King and Country.
Other Contenders: none.
Forecast: This modest restricted (nw-2) $16,000 claiming miler has very little speed signed on, so how about taking a shot with the sprinter-stretching-out King and Country? From the favorable rail post, the son of Lord Nelson should inherit the lead without having to be sent and then it’ll be up to him to prove he run this far, which he’ll have his best chance to do in his first try. From the good T. McCanna barn, this sophomore colt has sprint figures that fit at this level so if he can clear the field and get brave, he’ll at least outrun his odds and may be do a whole lot better than that.
