Del Mar 3rd race – Post: 5:00 ET.  Degree of confidence: B
Top Selection: 2-Running Super.
Other Contenders
None.

Forecast: We’re going to assume that Running Super is going to improve considerably in today’s third race due to a logical drop from straight maiden to maiden claiming, two bullet workouts since raced, and a troubled debut in an extremely fast, highly rated race that darkened her true form.  Based on what we’ve seen of her in the morning, the daughter of Runhappy has the kind of early speed that should put her in the first flight, and after fading in the lane when chasing home stakes quality Hope Road in her debut she’ll have nothing even remotely that good to worry about in this affair.  The R. Ellis barn has solid stats with second time starters, so at 3-1 on the morning line she should offer good value in the win pool and in the various exotics.

Del Mar 6th Race – Post: 6:30 PT.  Degree of confidence: B
Top Selection: 2-Got Soul.
Other Contenders
:  7-Uncle Evco; 8-Johnson’s Magic.

Forecast: Maiden juveniles sprint five furlongs on turf in this wide open affair with several newcomers to consider, because the three in the field that have previous form don’t inspire.  Got Soul is intriguing.  His dirt workouts are pretty decent, especially his solo five furlong breeze July 29 in 1:00.4h that was accomplished without any urging, and his pedigree suggests he should be even more comfortable on grass.  He’s a good mover with easy action, and while we doubt he’s a blazer from the gate the son of Sir Prancealot appears to have some talent.  The barn has weak stats with first timers (an understatement, for sure) but maybe this colt will prove to be the exception to the rule. We’ll consider him a “must use” in rolling exotic play but not a single, as both Uncle Evco and Johnson’s Magic appear to have solid credentials, as well.
