Editor's Note: Helmut Winter, international racing handicapper from the 1/ST Technologies' XB Global team, provides an inside look at Germany's biggest weekend of racing.

An exciting weekend awaits us in Germany. The biggest Thoroughbred track in Germany, Baden-Baden, has the final weekend of the "The Big Week“ on the schedule. Meanwhile, the biggest harness track in Germany, Berlin-Mariendorf, runs the Germany Trotting Derby 2021. To assist your handicapping, Xpressbet and 1/ST BET offer free race programs/past performances from all German tracks.

On Sunday, all eyes are on the Group 1 Grand Prix of Baden over 1-1/2 miles with a post time of 10:15 am ET (Race 8), Additionally, Race 5 features the best horses over 1 mile in the Group 2 Kronimus-Oettingen Rennen. The Sunday headline races also include the final stage of the 129th German Trotting Derby 2021 at Berline-Mariendorf. The best trotters of Germany meet in Race 9 (post time 11:45 am ET). A note to harness players: In Germany there are no pacing races, only trotting races.

As you're watching the international racing simulcast, keep these German-style wagers and translations in mind:

Sunday Analysis

Baden-Baden // Race 5 // 8:25 am ET (US) // Group 2 Kronimus-Oettingen Rennen

#8 Novemba led in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Ascot after 1 furlong, pushed along 2 furlongs out and was headed inside the final furlong and finished 4th as the second tote favorite. Then she ran in a Group 1 at France's Deauville and she finished 11th of 14. In Germany, she has already won a Group 2 race in May and finished third last year here at Baden-Baden. She's the one to beat. Ireland's #1 Jin Jin dominated for quite some time and won 4 races in a row from May 2020 to May 2021 (all stakes races). She then followed a Group 3 race in Chantilly in which 4 of the first 5 finishers had odds beyond 14/1. Back in Germany on August 1, she ran second in a Group 3 race and must be strongly considered. #7 Liberty London finished fourth in her last race here at Baden-Baden on August 29 and had won 3 races in a row prior. Eduardo Pedroza is once again ridding her, and she should be the one to fight against the two favorites.

Baden-Baden // Race 8 // 10:15 am ET (US) // Group 1 Grand Prix of Baden

We expect a two-horse race. Goldophin sends the Irish horse #2 Passion and Glory, and has also assigned Oisin Murphy to ride in this race. The horse has won 3 times in a row at Lingfield and Ascot over 2000 meters, and at Goodwood in a Group 3 race over 2400 meters. In the last race at Goodwood, the gelding made all (wire to wire) and set a decent pace, steadied tempo before halfway, ridden clear over 1f out, stayed on strongly, reduced lead towards the finish, but remained unchallenged and finished first. The 4-year-old #3Torquator Tasso is the second favorite. The colt has was third last year in this race, won a Group 1 and Group 2 in Berlin and Hamburg over this distance and finished second in his last race in Berlin (a Group 1 again). Those two horses should dominate the field. #5 Millebosc is a French colt who was third in the Group 1 French Derby G1. Millebosc has one the best ratings and may surprise in his debut in Germany. Andrasch Starke once again rides #6 Sisfahan. The two come in from a win at the Group 1 German Derby at Hamburg on July 4 over today's distance. It will be interesting to see how the 3-year-old runs against the older rivals for the first time. The best of the rest is #8 Isfahani. The filly finished second in the Group 1 Prix Diana at Duesseldorf in August and could improve again.
