Fun in the Sun Contest: Week 3 Results & Look Ahead

Congratulations to long-time Xpressbet tournament player Michael O’Grady for a strong $389 Fun in the Sun earnings total. O’Grady topped Elmer Ramos, second at $363, while earning $2,551.50 and a seat at the Fun in the Sun $10,000-added Final Table September 4. Ramos finished $33 clear of David Jaffe at $330 and they collect $1,063.13 and $637.88 prizes, respectively, and each reserves a seat at the Final Table. Rounding out a growing seasonal total of 14 Final Table individual invitees are Donald Dandraia at $315 and Dave Walker at $305.

This week’s competition race mutuel payoffs were mixed with short prices at Del Mar—none over $8.40—and four double-digit returns at the Spa around punctual favorite Essential Quality ($2.80) in the Jim Dandy. Lexitonian, upset winner of the Vanderbilt, led Spa-based, double-digit, $2 payoffs at $70 to produce a ‘capped’ tournament total of $210 (based on a $10 competition wager). High Opinion returned $10.20 in the seventh, Cross Border paid $14.40 in the Bowling Green and The Last Zip added $16.20 in the nightcap.

Fun in the Sun play resumes Saturday and, whether or not you’ve previously participated, it’s time for you to take your best shot at a weekly pot and at winning a seat at the $10,000-added Final Table. The tournament requires a $25 registration fee and competitors are asked to make a live $10 win wager on one horse in each of 10 competition races—the last 5 at Saratoga and the first 5 at Del Mar.

If you don’t cash a ticket, the whole shebang will cost you $125. Of course, since competition wagers are live, a nice winner or two could put you in the black even if you don’t win a weekly prize. By the way, weekly prizes this year have collected an average of over $2,500 to first, over $1,000 to second and over $600 to third. The exception was in Week 2 when there was an unusual 3-way tie for the top and each earned $1,500.

In case you’re interested, after three weeks of Fun in the Sun action, top players have averaged $363 in earnings. Top 3 ranked prize winners on average have checked in at $327.50 and top 5 finishers are plotting at $309. Please note that in Week 2 there was a 3-way tie for first at $308. The other two top weekly prize winners earned $392 and $389.

You know you’re going to wager on Saratoga and Del Mar this Saturday. Why not take a shot at some extra cash and a chance to score at the $10,000-added Fun in the Sun Final Table?

See you then!
