Frank Carulli: Turf Paradise Opening Day Picks | Monday

Turf Paradise | Race 2

#3 AS LUCK HAPPENS (9-2) – Unraced until age 5, has speed and three seconds in last five starts at GG.

#7 READY TO STORM (8-5) – O’Neill shipper was beaten fave with Lasix, might need passing gear.

#2 MEMOLOTSAMISCHIEF (10-1) – Class dropper fired bullets on both sides of 14-month gap in training.

Comments: AS LUCK HAPPENS set a fast, pressured pace and dueled with the winner until mid-stretch before fading in a 12-horse field at Golden Gate. He starts fresh, adds blinkers and gets the call in this 4-1/2F sprint. Bet to win and place.

Turf Paradise | Race 3

#4 ILLA VEIW TOO (5-2) – Company lines stand out in field of nationwide shippers.

#5 M G BIG MARIA (5-1) – Hit board in 5 of last 7, some with benefit of lively pace.

#8 WORK N FLIRT (5-1) – Buried lesser at Mountaineer, arrives in top form nonetheless.

Comments: Runners arrive from six tracks for this $8,500/nw2 claiming sprint. ILLA VEIW TOO, in range of the leaders at Santa Anita and Del Mar, merits top billing, having faced the likes of next-out repeat winner Vulin, who won for $16,000 at 8-1), and recent three-peat winner Blessed Angel (3-7, $46k). Bet to win and place.

Turf Paradise | Race 6

#1 MY QUIET PLACE (8-1) – Fast works early, slow works lately, watch odds.

#2 MUSICAL DIVA (3-1) – Beaten favorite in all three starts out of town, worked in :34.4 locally.

#4 LINDYSNOTOBNOXIOUS (5-1) – Carried speed to pair of seconds recently, gets second-time Lasix.

Comments: MY QUIET PLACE showed some fast works out of town before prepping locally for her debut. Her dam, Kind of Naughty (22/6-6-3, $112k), was a solid allowance runner and multiple stakes placed for the same barn. Bet to win and place.
