Remington Park’s Springboard Mile has done exactly that for the likes of: 2020 champ Senor Buscador, winner of the 2024 Saudi Cup, the world’s richest race; Grade 3 winner and stakes-record holder Greyvitos, who won the Kentucky Derby prep race in 1:37.14 in 2017; and Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, who has three 2-year-olds entered in this year’s race as he seeks his eighth win. The $300,000 Springboard Mile this Friday caps an all-stakes Late Pick 4 that shapes up this way:
RP 9th race (9:52 p.m. EST) -- GLEE will carry the hopes of many Pick 4 players as the likely odds-on choice in the $75,000 Toby Keith Stakes. The Asmussen-trained 2-year-old filly was pestered on the lead in the $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial until she quickly separated from the field in the stretch to win by 15-1/2 lengths in her first start at Remington Park. She flattened out in a follow-up try in the $200,000 Myrtlewood at Keeneland that featured five prior-race winners who averaged a 72 Beyer speed figure in those wins. Locally-based ELEGANT ECHO rallied past four next-out winners in the $100,000 Oklahoma Classics Lassie and ‘powered to the front’ to beat the troubled favorite two starts back. She broke poorly as the 4-to-5 favorite in the $50,000 Slide Show at this distance and was unhurried until she drew abreast of the leaders with a 5-wide sweep on the turn before stalling on a very sloppy track. TAPITURES ACTOR was pinched at the start, losing several lengths, ranged up 3-wide into the stretch and finished a clear second in the 6-1/2F race against Glee. She bounced back to beat a weak stakes field in the $100,000 My Trusty Cat at Delta Downs to improve to 2-for-3 with Lasix and blinkers.
RP 10th race (10:23 p.m. EST) -- CORNINGSTONE, multiple graded stakes-placed at 1-1/16 miles, starts at her 11th different venue with a gaudy 18/6-6-3 record on dirt and a $583k bankroll. Her class and consistency should prevail in the $75,000 She’s All In Stakes at 1 mile and 70 yards. BRU NA BOINNE won her last three routes on the main track with ascending speed figures and should offer good enough value to use as a backup selection.
RP 11th race (10:54 p.m. EST) -- SILVER PROSPECTOR backed off a duel, made a ‘strong’ re-bid on the final turn and hung in late stretch as his three-peat bid came up a length short. But the multiple Grade 3-winning millionaire should sit an ideal trip from just off the pace in the $75,000 Jeffrey A. Hawk Memorial in lieu of his first stakes win in 2-1/2 years. U.S. ARMY should be the target, stretching out off a troubled sprint try as the overwhelming favorite at a track where he’s 5-for-10.
RP 12th race (11:25 p.m. EST) -- Hitting the ‘ALL’ button in the featured Springboard Mile. Morning-line favorite SPEED KING was bumped at the start and didn’t change leads in the stretch, but held off the favorite, nonetheless, in a debut Maiden Special Weight upset at Churchill Downs with an 82 Beyer speed figure. JOLLY SAMURAI and MISTER OMAHA boast three-race winning streaks and two stakes victories apiece at Remington Park. DR. RUBEN M held on to defeat a solid MSW field at Santa Anita at this distance despite getting ‘weary late.’ COMPLEX MUSIC looks best of the uncoupled Asmussen trio off an allowance romp sprinting at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
