Frank Carulli: Laurel Pick 6 Mandatory Payout Analysis | Friday, March 31

Laurel Park’s Rainbow Pick 6 will feature a $9,616 carryover pool this Friday. The 20-cent wager is worth trying to become the lone ticket holder of the winning sequence. Four of the races are for 3-year-olds that stack up this way:

LRL 3rd race (1:25 EST) --RUN FOR YOUR LIFE debuts with Lasix off a solid work tab for Team Russell. His sire, Bolt D’Oro, was a Grade I winner as a 2-year-old and his offspring are 12-76 in their first start.  MASTERWORK re-tries MSW company for a 19-percent claim barn. His sire’s offspring finished in the money in 76 of 187 dirt routes with an average winning distance of 6.7F; his dam was a solid turf sprinter but also stakes-placed at one mile on dirt.

LRL4th race (1:55 EST) --The eight entrants in this allowance are a combined 27/6-8-3 at one mile. Taking no chances as a result and hitting the ‘ALL’ button.

LRL 5th race (2:24 EST) -- SHE’LL MAKE WAVES dueled with the favorite from the far turn to the finish and prevailed for a repeat victory at 6F. She can use her speed well from a favorable post in a bid to remain perfect. BOSSYNESS benefitted from the duel, swung 3-wide at the 1/8th pole and closed with a rush to just miss. She galloped out far in front and should appreciate the added ground. Her entry-mate, GOLDIENESS, could sit a similar trip to her maiden win at this distance in a race that produced three next-out winners.

LRL 6th race (2:52 EST) -- NEVER CHANGE, the beaten favorite in four of his last six starts, settled into a perfect stalking position after the pace setter LOOKIN FOR JUSTICE bumped him at the start, but he still came up short under strong urging from mid-turn to the finish. He’s hard to leave off the ticket but very risky as a solo play, too. Going to include: TOTAL EFFORT, a one-mile maiden breaker at Aqueduct who can use his speed well in this spot; BRONCO MARIA, who rallied into photo-finish view in three of her last six starts at 7F and beyond; and longshot SHADY MUNNI off the claim for a hot barn (23-for-97).

LRL 7th race (3:21 EST) -- DREW’S GOLD has wins at three tracks and distances to start his career. The rivals he defeated are a combined 14/4-3-2 in their next start. He is the field’s lone stakes winner after a 4-1/4-length romp in the $1000,000 Jimmy Winkfield at Aqueduct and he broke in the air in his lone Laurel Park start and ran down NOAH CHANCE, who surrounded that race with two wins by a combined 11 lengths. He is today’s solo play, but if he scratches, use his stablemate, PROVE RIGHT, and the aforementioned NOAH CHANCE as replacements.

LRL 8th race (3:48 EST) -- STRONG FINISH gets Lasix and blinkers in his first start as a gelding, eight months removed from a MSW debut at Aqueduct. He lost by 16 lengths to Lost Ark, who came back to win the $203,000 Sapling Stakes by 7-1/2 lengths and followed with a pair of Grade I appearances. If he doesn’t win, GREAT GOOGLYMOOGLY could save the day. He nestled in a :35.4 workout at Laurel Park February 20 and will look to enhance Phillip Capuano’s 3-for-7 record with first-time starters to launch his career as a trainer. All of Capuano’s debut winners were dismissed at 9-2 odds or less.
