Frank Carulli: Laurel Park Pick 4 Analysis | Friday, November 11, 2022

Solving a pair of 10-horse allowance sprints, one on turf and one on dirt, will be the key to unlocking Laurel Park’s 50-cent Late Pick 4 wager this Friday, Nov. 11. A closer look at the action reveals:

LRL 6th race (2:56 EST) -- ISLAND PHILO raced close-up for a half mile against the boys in the Maryland Million Turf Sprint before tiring, but she should revert to off-the-pace tactics that produced a starter allowance victory, a near miss in allowance company and two stakes-placed showings. She finished between two next-out turf allowance winners in the Camptown Stakes. She is reunited with third-leading jockey Jevian Toledo and gets plenty of pace to rally into as today’s solo play in the Pick 4 sequence.

LRL 7th race (3:27 EST) -- DANCER’S MELODY, far back after a slow start, advanced quickly inside on the turn and burst through a 3-path seam in mid-stretch to win going away off the claim. No reason to think she can’t repeat at a distance at which she finished first or second in 7 of 11 starts. BEHIND THE COUCH out-dueled the favorite, shook clear in the stretch and got caught in a two-turn allowance at Timonium three starts ago, then lacked closing kick in a 7F allowance, finishing behind three rivals who are a combined 50/14-17-7 with more than $700,000 in earnings.

LRL 8th race (3:58 EST) -- Fillies and mares take center stage again for the featured allowance sprint on the main track. BANDITS WARRIOR is a deserving morning-line favorite, having led most of the way from post 12 in a triple key race two starts back and winning by 9-1/4 lengths last out. But she beat a troubled runner-up and an otherwise weak allowance field that doesn’t stack up with the nine rivals she faces today with a combined 63/15-12-17 record at 6F. Hit the ‘ALL’ button in Leg C.

LRL 9th race (4:29 EST) – BERNIE’S ON FIRE pulled away on the front end to win in an $8,000 claiming race and New York invader BAD GUY rallied to win for a $12,500 tag in his last start on dirt, both at today’s 6F distance. One of them is likely to land in the winner’s circle again in this $5,000 claimer.
