Gulfstream Park’s Rainbow Pick 6 features a $47,996 carryover pool for this Friday. Those less ambitious have a good fallback option with the 50-cent Late Pick 4. It will be an all-out sprint to the finish with the races spanning 5F to 6F, on dirt, turf and the all-weather track.
GP 6th race (3:03 p.m. EST) -- JET WINGS went wire-to-wire to win off a four-month layoff to begin his 5-year-old season, continued to improve, now refuels after seven months idle. He could do it again from the rail. MR NARCISSISTIC is a model of ultra-consistency for top connections with a 31/6-9-4 record and $200k bankroll on the synthetic track. ENSIGN PARKER rallied for back-to-back photo-finish victories, the first in a race that produced three next-out winners and a runner-up. He benefits from the extra half-furlong today.
GP 7th race (3:33 p.m. EST) -- LIGHTNING DUST led clear at the stretch call in three of her last four starts, winning twice. She set comparable middle fractions to a same-day, $20,000 optional claiming race in her 6F win last out and can pay off quickly on a claim at 5-1/2F today. SPLURGE rallied to finish second twice under these conditions, following the move of the 4-to-5 winner two back and unable to reach the 3-1 pace setter more recently.
GP 8th race (4:03 p.m. EST) -- XY SPEED, still going strong at age 8, rallied to win three non-stakes turf sprints in a row this spring on the Gulfstream Park lawn. He returned in the $100,000 Select Stakes at Monmouth Park, dug in while dueling between rivals and finished fourth, less than a length behind Senbei, a next-out Grade 3 winner. He raced wide from post 11 and finished out of the money in the Grade 2 Woodford last out, but didn’t lose any ground in the rapid-paced turf sprint at Keeneland. He is the pick to enhance his 12-28 grass record and close in on a half-million in earnings. PANTHER ISLAND also likes the Gulfstream lawn and offers more value on the Pick 4 ticket. He finished 1-2 with a stakes win in five of his last six turf sprints locally, all ending in photo finishes. He should be set up for a contending rally and can handle firm or soft footing.
GP 9th race (4:33 p.m. EST) -- ALLEGRINI dueled on the inside and was bumped turning for home before the trip-sitting favorite rallied by for the 7F win. SCALLYWAG, a three-time runner-up in four starts, hasn’t raced since a voided claim in May on the class drop to this level. EXCHANGE DREAMS had a troubled debut run in February, is working well for his return and hails from a barn on a 6-for-15 run with second-time starters. Use all three of these runners on the Pick 4 but go 8-deep in the final leg of the sequence for some protection.
